Business budgets require a lot of work to create, and in order for a budget to function properly your business will need to stick to the budget as closely as possible. However, even the most closely followed budgets can end up with some type of budget variance at one time or another. If the variance is in your favor, it is often recorded that the budget is FAV (favorable). Or, if the budget is actually against your, then it is recorded as being ADV (adverse).
