How to Select a New PC Motherboard

The sheer thought of replacing the motherboard of a personal computer can be confusing. Choosing the right mother board for one's PC is not as difficult a task as one thinks if they keep a few simple things in mind while going shopping for it. The first and the most important this is that one must choose the mother board that fits the case of the PC. In recent years, all PCs use ATX cases and ATX motherboards but old PC cases might use AT or Baby AT motherboards. It's always good to take the advice of a computer shop technician on this matter. If one if looking for a greater speed from the motherboard then it is a good idea to ensure that it has a superior RAM and high speed FSB (Front Side Bus) installed on the motherboard. Higher bus speed helps in transmitting larger quantities of data to CPU at one go. It's also vital to compare and choose the motherboard controller's rated speeds and supported hard drives for better performance. It's always beneficial and cost effective to consider buying onboard FireWire, Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0, sound, and network hardware rather than buying these separately. RAM capacity is vital and one must choose it considering the highest capacity of RAM a motherboard can support.
