This paper shows an incremental redundancy Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) scheme, based on rateless coding, for possible application to a distributed wireless network. The proposed approach is demonstrated to be effective under energy consumption and rate constraints. This objective is pursued by increasing the average throughput, limiting the length of re-transmitted packets thanks to rateless coding. Performance are evaluated in terms of average energy consumption, comparing the presented solution with a HARQ based on traditional coding techniques. Simulation results are obtained using a network simulation model for rateless code transmissions applied to mesh systems.
