Transportation information collection systems based on conventional detection technologies such as loop detectors, digital image beacons, and Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) give rise to high installation and maintenance costs, and these costs prohibit proliferation of these detection technologies. Consequently, a demand of applying a new technology based on RFID for transportation area has been escalating recently to construct a revolutionary traffic information collection system. The objectives of the research include to develop a novel Traffic Information Collection System (TICS) based on RFID, and to create a chance to lead ubiquitous environments in the transportation area.
