Improved Spectrum Sensing by Utilizing Signal Autocorrelation

Executive Summary

A method that exploits the autocorrelation of transmission signals for primary user detection in cognitive radio is proposed. A closed-form analysis of the method is presented and compared with Monte Carlo simulations. Analytical and simulation results indicate that the method provides significant improvement in the probability of detection for moderate SNR scenarios where fast sensing is required. Simulation results indicate the better performance in fading environment and collaborative sensing as well. Cognitive radio was suggested in to realize a flexible and efficient usage of spectrum.
