Improving Transport Protocol Performance in MANET by Exploiting the Backoff Algorithm of MAC Protocol

In this paper, the authors propose an improvement to the transport protocol performance in Mobile Ad hoc NETwork (MANET) by exploiting the backoff algorithm of Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol. They are especially interested in the TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) performance parameters like the throughput and end-to-end delay. This improvement is IB-MAC (Improvement of Backoff algorithm of MAC protocol) which proposes a new backoff algorithm based on a dynamic adaptation of its maximal limit according to the number of nodes and their mobility.
