One of the problems in Aspect-Oriented Software Development is specifying point-cuts that are robust with respect to evolution of the base program. The authors propose to use Inductive Logic Programming, and more specifically the FOIL algorithm, to automatically discover intensional pattern-based point-cuts. In this paper, they demonstrate this approach using several experiments in Java, where they successfully induce a point-cut from a given set of join-points. Furthermore, they present the tool chain and IDE that supports their approach.
