The measurement reading EVM (Error Vector Magnitude) is one of the most important characteristics for determination of signal quality. Especially modern OFDM-based systems, such as WiMAX and LTE, use this parameter for conformance testing. In this paper, the authors show, that measurement accuracy problems may occur particularly in case of high order modulation schemes such as 64-QAM. Therefore a Matlab based simulation chain for an LTE system was implemented, which allows to analyze the influence of different impairments, such as phase noise, clipping, IQ-imbalances and AWGN on the EVM in general and the measurement accuracy in particular. Furthermore a possible solution for this accuracy issue is presented.
