This paper presents a framework to improve program management through integrative thinking skills and shows an application in a supply chain environment. Integrative thinking could be adopted by program managers through three essential skills: Visualizing systems, connecting people and creating desired futures. As a result, program managers can develop the ability to deal with project interdependences and make effective decisions. The business world is a messy place where the links between cause and effect are not clear, and many factors are in play in an uncertain way. In addition, the stance of stakeholders and sponsors could add encountered visions that have to be balanced to achieve organizational goals.
