InterMR: Interoperable MANET Routing Across Coalitions
Modern warfare requires rapid mobilization of military units across different countries, administrations and organizations. These units are organized into multiple coalitions that must efficiently intercommunicate in order to accomplish their mission. Technologies and systems employed by different coalitions are often heterogeneous, creating an obstacle even to basic operations. The problem of interoperating heterogeneous software systems has been recognized as a major problem by the military. In a communication network, the problem of interoperation is more than just providing interoperable data formats and types. More importantly, the authors have to address the protocol-level heterogeneity.
