No computer system within the world is an island, as a result of an interconnected cyber-infrastructure world where most systems exist in a vast evolving infrastructure of computer network systems. These systems have brought too much of the world vast amounts of information, access to communities once remote and resources that were the stuff of science fiction. These systems have also become an integral part of the modern world, just as oil was the defining force of the nineteenth century; computer networks have become the defining force for national defense in the twenty-first century.
