In this paper, the authors describe the design of an MBOFDM based UWB receiver that can operate without any IQ imbalance calibration of the receiver front end. Specifically they derive schemes for frequency offset estimation and channel estimation/ equalization techniques for the various MBOFDM data rates that are robust to IQ mismatch. Finally performance of the proposed schemes is analyzed in presence of noise and multipath effects. Direct Conversion Radio (DCR) architectures are rapidly becoming popular for area-constrained handheld systems since they allow for monolithic implementation of radio front-ends.
