Peace of mind comes from knowing the backed-up data can actually be restored quickly and reliably. Backups can be easily verified, but there is high anxiety associated with confirming the reliability of a restore. In most cases, knowing that a restore actually works usually occurs after data is lost. Keeping the fingers crossed should not be an integral part of a data recovery program. The backup set required restoring one full backup on a total of five tapes and five incremental on one tape each. After running the restore process on seven out of the ten tapes, the restore fails on a bad sector on the second to the last incremental.
