Lab Trial of a GMPLS Controlled MPLS-TP Packet Transport Network With Source/PCE Path Computations
A lab trial validating the implemented GMPLS control plane for MPLS-TP in the ADRENALINE testbed is presented. The authors experimentally compare the establishment of bidirectional LSPs using either source or PCE-based path computations. The emergence of new packet-based services over Ethernet technology and applications (e.g., high definition IPTV) with different QoS requirements are dramatically increasing the demand of bandwidth, not only in the access but also in the metro and core networks. This is forcing network operators to seek for alternatives to the legacy transport technologies (e.g., SONET/SDH) to attain a more cost-efficient, scalable and flexible transport solution.
