Lab Trial of Multi-Domain Path Computation in GMPLS Controlled WSON Using a Hierarchical PCE
The authors report the design, implementation and lab-trial of an H-PCE for multi-domain path computation in GMPLS networks and the required PCEP protocol extensions. They quantitatively show the benefits of parallelization and the path computation latency. Multi-domain networks are expected to be a fundamental part of Wavelength Switched Optical Networks (WSON) deployments (e.g., combining different vendors), and segmenting them into domains can increase the overall scalability. Path computation in Generalized MultiProtocol Label Switching (GMPLS) controlled WSON is one of the main drivers for the adoption of Path Computation Element (PCE) based architectures, in which several PCEs collaborate to compute an end to end path.
