Executive Summary

Infringement of privacy and denial of service attacks can take various forms. Coercing unsolicited emails upon an individual or an organisation is one of those not so obvious forms. Their approach aims at effectively stopping spam and minimizing false-positives by applying filters at both sender side and receiver side on the basis of their proposed portable merit-grading scheme. Their merit scheme is designed in such a way that, while the cooperation of the sender and the receiver of an email is voluntary, their active cooperation will reap much greater benefits. As a result, their scheme will increase the accuracy and the effectiveness of the spam filtering, and the normal email traffic will steadily ferment and enrich the merits that would lead to smarter email classifications and could also propagate across the other participating organizations.
