Information technology specialists are increasingly challenged to provide high performing, complex database systems while simultaneously managing the costs of ever-growing storage demands. A storage management system that provides optimal and highly predictable performance of OLTP and mixed workload environments while liberating the organization from complex configuration changes is the ultimate goal. This paper summarizes tests performed for a joint Microsoft and 3PAR customer who wanted to better understand the benefits of new storage technologies in its environment. 3PAR and Microsoft worked collaboratively to assist the customer with reducing capital and administrative costs while maintaining optimal performance running an OLTP workload on Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition and a 3PAR InServ Storage Server.
