From the White House through every level of the government, economy, and society, the security of the information and communications networks is clearly a top national priority. Ongoing attacks on the defense, energy, healthcare, and other systems have become increasingly sophisticated and have been well documented. These serious and growing threats now take their place alongside the many risks of network disruptions caused by natural disasters, pandemics, insider threats, and human error. But all too often in today's federal agencies, security and networking products have been deployed as a patchwork of siloed, non-integrated devices, and this has resulted in less effective network security that is costly to operate.
