Executive Summary

The use of multiple antennas at transmitter/receiver side and of spatial diversity increases the spectrum efficiency and overcomes the multi path propagation effects in a MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) system. Based on the propagation parameters, from IEEE 802.11n specifications for 5 types of transmission environments, and on MatLab 7.1 simulation results, the authors propose the adaptive optimization of linear antenna array by means of number of active elements, elements spacing and maximum capacity.
