The paper presents the basics of mobile application creation for Smartphones using the visual programming tool, 'App Inventor for Android (AIA)'. The AIA was developed by Google to enable non-programmers to easily build mobile applications by dragging and dropping the block-based interfaces, like blocks of Lego, instead of writing lines and lines of code. It allows users to immediately build applications (e.g., location services and games) that interface with mobile technologies. With the popularity of Smartphones, mobile applications are increasingly gaining interest to younger generations as well as students who are interested in computer science.
