Currently, UMTS networks worldwide are being upgraded to High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) in order to increase data rate and capacity for downlink packet data. In the next step, High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) will boost uplink performance in UMTS networks. However, in order to ensure the competitiveness of UMTS for the next 10 years and beyond, concepts for UMTS Long Term Evolution (LTE) have been investigated. The objective is a high-data-rate, low-latency and packet optimized radio access technology. This white paper describes the main features of the LTE concept and how these features can easily be handled by ICS telecom.
