Executive Summary

jBPM is a JBoss solution for Business Process Management (BPM) that was created so as to allow software engineers to share the same concepts and frameworks as business analysts. The jBPM BPM solution works on the JBoss Application Server, which is a programmatic structure that can be used to design transactions and to execute then with the use of features such as automated decision, tasks and sequence flows. For BPM systems to work properly, an organisation must be able to take it up at the business as well as technical level. The responsibility of appropriate functioning of jBPM depends on higher responsibility from the business and technical departments. Where the business level should be able to prepare a formal procedures description, this can be a difficult and inefficient process. At the technical level, it is important to translate BPM into executable functions. This process allows any error to creep in at the time of transformation from business to the implementation. A number of BPM implementations have been unsuccessful in the past with faulty technicalities of some workflows. These implementations often introduce technical issues rather than solving them. This paper discusses three primary BPM practices as process design (designing existing and new processes), process execution (execution of event involving software processes and human activities), and process monitoring (auditing processes that can be recorder, reported and optimized).
