Executive Summary

WiFi has become mainstream technology in offices, homes and public places. While WiFi infrastructure has proliferated over the years, WiFi security awareness lags behind. Honeypot (Evil Twin) is one of the many security threats that WiFi infrastructure and clients face today. Moreover, due to discoveries of several new 802.11 vulnerabilities over last few years, Honeypot threat has also evolved. In this paper, the authors describe how the recently discovered vulnerabilities can increase sophistication of Honeypot attack thereby exposing even larger genre of clients to this attack. They provide results from their experimentation with these new vulnerabilities in Honeypot attack sequence. Several remedies to protect from these sophisticated Honeypot attacks are also described.
