To combat increasing international crime and protect against forgery, countries around the world are implementing biometric passports. International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the normative organization for standardizing travel documents, has developed standards for implementing machine-readable passports and other travel documents, which include biometric traits. Such documents improve identification reliability by creating a strong tie between the document and its holder.
Issuing such documents requires new solutions that ensure compliance to ICAO standards and county-specific requirements. Such solutions should provide a fast, reliable, and easy-to-use process that can be integrated with existing infrastructure.
Furthermore, if they are flexibly designed these solutions could offer extremely reliable and convenient enrollment for any application, including in commercial environments, where people need to register in order to subsequently prove their identity.
