In this paper, the authors investigate a typical LTE-Advanced multi-user MIMO system where Mobile Stations (MSs) feedback limited channel state information using codebook based approaches. A joint optimization of multi-user scheduling, linear transmit beam-forming, and receive combining is conducted at the base station to combat the intra-cell interference created by multi-user MIMO operation. Low complexity coordinated beamforming schemes based on proportional-fair metric is proposed for jointly designing the beam-forming and receive combining vectors. Feedback schemes complied with LTE-Advanced specification is also introduced for the proposed coordinated beamforming scheme.
