The time required for border control processing has increased considerably in the last few years, due to both an increase in international crime and steep annual growth in travel. Conventional methods cannot meet the security and speed requirements to identify growing numbers of travelers; high-capacity technology is needed.
Biometrics is emerging as the preferred core technology for border management, because it creates a strong connection between the document and its holder. Biometric passports, also known as e-passports, as well as biometric visas, are being implemented by countries around the world.
These new travel documents require new solutions to read and verify the document and the holder's identity. When properly designed, such solutions can further enhance border security while streamlining the border control process.
