Challenges to information security are on the rise with data security facing serious challenges. Protection of data is possible only once the IT infrastructure at a data center is safeguarded with the latest technology. New in the line of data security software is the Symantec NetBackup 7 that is able to handle growth of large volumes of data. At the same time, the data protection software should be able to meet regulatory mandates. This implies harsher Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to protect backup windows, Recovery Time Objectives (RTO), and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO). This paper discusses the requirement of next generation data security with newer information management tools if one is to meet the growing pertinent need to protect volumes of sensitive data. Tape and physical server-based models do not work anymore. Instead, the paper deals with systems such as disk based backups, deduplication, virtualization and archiving. The idea is to ensure continuous data protection for users, while providing a unified solution.NetBackup 7, which is discussed in this paper, offers a comprehensive and integrated approach to protecting data. The system uses automating advanced technologies along with standardizing operations. These are used across applications, platforms, and virtual environments to protect IT environments of data center clients. This way one is sure that data is protected, stored safely and can be recovered with ease. The paper also discusses key features of NetBackup 7 towards data security.
