Satellite systems are playing a key role like access network in the provision of next generation services. New concepts in the payloads architectures are required in order to support efficiently the new multimedia services. This paper will present the study of next generation payload architecture (in the context of Satsix project), taking into account the impact over different system scenarios. This paper identifies and analyses the requirements for next generation payload architecture. The usage of DVB-S2/ACM standard will improve significantly the satellite capacity required and thus the associated transmission costs. The introduction of DVBS2/ ACM over OBPs and the new concept of hybrid payloads (mix of transparent and regenerative) would make more attractive satellite services by increasing the bandwidth efficiency.
