Non-Saturation Throughput Analysis of IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function
This paper presents an analytical model for performance evaluation of Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) of IEEE 802.11b Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) with Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB) algorithm. BEB algorithm doubles the contention window size whether the packet collision or packet losses occur in the channel. This will increase the channel idle time in the wireless networks. In this paper, the authors analyze the new approach for modeling MAC scheme to decrease the channel idle time and considerably increase the throughput of IEEE 802.11 DCF protocol under a non-saturation condition. The new analytic model takes in to account of the impact of channel error and station retry limits for analyzing real networks.
