The authors propose a novel packet batch dependant cross-layer scheduling scheme for the downlink multiuser Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system, which significantly outperforms the existing queue dependant scheduling scheme over a wide range of Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) in terms of the system bandwidth efficiency, Best-Effort (BE) traffic throughput and Quality of Service (QoS) traffic delay, while requiring a lower complexity. Their batch dependant scheduling also provides a better tradeoff between the QoS traffic and BE traffic. It is also shown to guarantee the system stability.
