In recent years, many research efforts have focused on building experimentation platforms where structural changes to future Internet can be implemented and tested. GENI, instantiated by its prototype implementations, e.g. ProtoGENI, is a notable example of such systems. In this paper, the authors present the PrimoGENI approach; which aims to augment the GENI suite of interoperable infrastructure to enable large-scale experiments involving both physical and simulated networked components. Composed of a collection of programmable networking components, GENI was created following the previous success of PlanetLab. It aims at becoming a virtual laboratory for networking experimentation with the objective of leveraging new technologies to break the ossification of the Internet.
