Executive Summary

Multihop Cellular Network (MCN) combines the best features of both conventional Single hop Cellular Network (SCN) and Ad-hoc networks. In MCN, mobile terminals transmit packets to base stations as well as to other mobile stations using multiple hops with less transmission range. Such a system enhances the throughput, user capacity and energy efficiency. However, the issue of optimal selection of the transmission range in MCN is yet to be addressed. In MCN, obtaining optimal transmission range assumes quite significance due to many multiple short range transmissions instead of single long range transmission.
