On Recent Security Enhancements to Autoconfiguration Protocols for MANETs Real Threats and Requirements

In the context of Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) security, most of research so far has been focused primarily on trust models and routing security problems, and much less attention has been given to the auto-configuration security issue. However, the lack of security in the design of all previously proposed auto-configuration schemes opens the possibility of many real threats, due to the well-known MANETs' vulnerabilities which are specific to ad hoc paradigm. This can lead hence to serious attacks in potentially hostile environments, such as IP Spoofing Attack, Exhaustion Address Space Attack, Conflict Address Attack, Sybil Attack, etc.
