On the Accuracy of the Gaussian Approximation for the Evaluation of Nonlinear Effects in OFDM Signals

OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) modulations can have excellent performance in severely time-dispersive channels without the need of complex receiver implementations, making them suitable for broadband wireless systems. For this reason, they were selected for several systems, such as DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting), wireless broadband access technologies IEEE 802.16a/d/e, commonly referred to as WiMAX, and 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) LTE (Long Term Evolution), named HSOPA (High Speed OFDM Packet Access). It is also the access method candidate for WRAN (Wireless Regional Area Networks).
