In this paper, the authors develop a generic Markovian model to study the dynamics of data service in a multi-cell context, and apply it to cells served by HSDPA and WiMAX access networks. They first present analytical models for interference and throughputs in WiMAX and HSDPA. Then, they consider a cooperative WiMAX/HSDPA network considering both inter-cell and vertical handovers and show how to calculate the steady-state probabilities and the performance indicators. Their calculations take into account mobility within the cell and between different cells and make one able to calculate intra and inter-cell dropping.
