Applications requiring QoS support for multicast traffic remain to be important in small and large scale networks. The problem of providing quality of service guarantees for multicast traffic over crossbar switches has received a limited attention, despite the popularity of its counterpart for unicast traffic. One of the main reasons for this is the difficulty of the task. Indeed, it was shown in that "Optimal scheduling" of multicast packets is NP-hard over a crossbar switch and in it was proved that the resource speedup necessary to achieve 100% throughput for all admissible multicast traffic grows unbounded with increasing switch size.
