This paper covers the basics of OSs (Operating Systems) in mobile phones as well as giving an overview of the impact of both open-source and proprietary offerings. In the last few years mobile telecoms has entered a new era; the rise in popularity of the smartphone has made the OS (Operating System) a key element in the design, development and delivery of both the devices and services which an operator can offer.
