Executive Summary

Extending lifetime of the battery operated wireless sensor nodes through the design of low power medium access control protocols dealt in this study. Approach: In this study energy efficient Optimal Power Control MAC with Overhearing Avoidance (OPC-OA) was proposed. The transmission power of every node was dynamically changed for the optimal connectivity between nodes. The optimal transmission power for a link was estimated in this OPC-AC algorithm by measuring the link quality by using RSSI. The energy consumption analysis of proposed MAC had been done in MATLAB based discrete event simulation. Results: The comparison of energy consumption analysis of the proposed MAC with the On Demand Transmission Power Control (ODTPC) had been done.
