Executive Summary

In this paper, a cross layer design packet scheduling architecture is proposed for Long Term Evolution-Advanced downlink transmission, to guarantee the support of quality of service requirements in a mixed traffic environment. The proposed architecture uses service specific queue sorting algorithms for different traffic types and an adaptive time domain scheduling algorithm to adaptively allocate available resources to real time and non real time traffic. Multiuser diversity is exploited both in the time domain and frequency domain by jointly considering the channel state information and queue state information.
