Executive Summary

In this paper, the authors study how information exchange is scheduled among peers to achieve high network throughput and lower transmission delay in wireless network using network coding. Based on the study of these scheduling principles, they propose a Peer-to-peer Information Exchange (PIE) scheme with an efficient and light weight scheduling algorithm, which helps in the throughput improvement, energy efficiency and delay minimization of the network. Network coding has been widely recognized as a promising information dissemination approach to improving network performance by allowing and encouraging coding operations at intermediate network forwarders.
