Recent pressures for better corporate governance and greater accountability have spurred business organizations and academic institutions to reexamine their codes of ethics. The creation of an ethical code demands an assessment of its effectiveness. The literature suggests that key influences on ethical decision making include stakeholder involvement, code design, code implementation and enforcement, and organizational culture. Using those criteria, a survey instrument was developed and administered to university and college faculty and administrators for the purpose of assessing their perceptions of their institutions' codes of ethics.
