Performance Analysis of IEEE 802.11 WLANs With Saturated and Unsaturated Sources

The model is used to investigate the interaction between these two types of sources, which is particularly useful for systems seeking to achieve load-independent "Fair" service differentiation. The authors show that, when the TXOP limit for unsaturated sources is greater than one packet, batches are distributed as a geometric random variable clipped to TXOP limit. Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) are widely deployed to provide widespread Internet access through WiFi-enabled mobile devices such as laptops and smart phones. Internet applications over WLANs consist not only of throughput intensive applications such as email and file transfer but also of delay-sensitive ones such as voice and video.
