This paper compares and analyzes the performance of two QoS schemes for MANETs: SWAN and DiffServ. The comparison is performed both qualitatively and quantitatively (by simulations). Authors also suggest a hybrid QoS model which combines the merits of the two models to produce an effective QoS model for MANETs. Quality of Service in an ad hoc environment has been widely recognized as a challenging problem. Characteristics of ad hoc networks such as mobility, dynamics of the environment and uncertainty of resource availability makes provisioning of QoS guarantees difficult.
