In this paper, a new family of prime codes called Split-Expand Modified Prime (SEMP) code is proposed to suppress the phase-induced intensity noise in spectral-amplitude-coding optical code-division multiple-access systems. These codes are derived and developed from modified prime sequence codes. The code construction procedure is simple compared to the PMP codes and the cross correlation value is always less than or equal to one. Numerical analysis shows that the BER performance of the SAC-OCDMA system with the proposed codes is better compared to the systems with MQC codes and PMP codes.
