The annual performance review is a continuation of the day-to-day reviews and a closing of the loop in the managerial process. When regular progress reviews are held, the annual performance review will be much smoother and less traumatic and will probably require much less time. It is desirable for both the manager and the subordinate to prepare in advance and have notes on all aspects of the review for discussion during the actual interview. This is also a good time to discuss the subordinate's career plans and set objectives for the next year with the subordinate.
