Executive Summary

In order to combat the PHase Noise (PHN) generated by the local oscillators, a simple and non-iterative algorithm for PHN estimation and equalization is proposed for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems, based on the conventional Common Phase Error (CPE) estimation scheme. The PHN is estimated by the interpolation of the adjacent CPEs, making use of the slow-going character of the PHN, and then equalized by a zero-forcing equalizer or low-complex matched filter in the frequency domain. With the aim of further improvement for the equalization performance, the interference caused by the known pilots to data subcarriers is eliminated in the equalizers.
