In the present paper the authors present a study considering a variable number of nodes collecting data and sending them to a sink node. This implementation is based on Contiki OS and Rime communication stack, using Crossbow TelosB motes. The present experimental scenario faces several requirements including the following: reliability - the system should guarantee the delivery of all sensor data to the sink node; maintenance scheduling - the time between each maintenance operation is critical due to the limitation on devices physical access, which requires special attention on the overall energy consumption; latency - collected data should be available as soon as possible, since it is subsequently used to track faults and to support production based decisions.
