For Federal Information Technology (IT) leaders considering employing a private cloud approach, this paper provides a window into products that are available from the commercial marketplace. The paper is organized into the general categories of virtualization and hypervisors, storage (e.g., storage area networks, storage arrays), security, and provisioning, management, and metering. The product categories in this paper were selected based upon a generalization of the private cloud computing marketplace and the technologies available in early 2010. However, vendor products do not always fall directly within one category; some vendors are offering suites of capabilities that span multiple categories and other vendors are offering appliances, some of which package both hardware and software into "A cloud in a box."
