The authors argue that the need for a programming languages course has not diminished, but instead increased, especially as people move into an era of many-core computing. The programming language course has played, and will continue to play, an important role in the education of undergraduates. As such, it should regain its status as an integral part of a computer science education in curricular standards. Not only are the topics of central interest to computer scientists today, but they also help prepare students for the inevitable changes that they will encounter over their careers.
