QoS-aware Rate Control Algorithm in Long Distance Wireless Mesh Networks

Supporting delay sensitive real-time traffic such as video and voice over Wireless Local Area Network-based (WLAN) Long Distance Wireless Mesh Networks (LDWMN) is a challenging and attractive task. To support real-time traffic, an efficient Quality of Service (QoS)-Aware Rate Control (QARC) algorithm is proposed, which aims to improve the system performance by adapting the transmission rate to the current link condition in the design of LDWMN for rural areas. The proposed QARC is simply based on local acknowledgement frames to indicate the correct reception of the packet, and hence it is compatible with the current WLAN mesh networks.
